Öreg Tanyacsárda - Lajosmizse

csarda.png

Introduction

The Öreg Tanyacsárda has been welcoming guests every day of the year for over 45 years. The restaurant started as a small wooden buffet but has since grown into a famous restaurant, known far and wide by both domestic and international guests. In addition to its unique culinary specialties, it also hosts gastronomic events.

For instance, the Sobri Fish Days, the local Harvest Festival, and the St. Andrew’s Day pig slaughter are held here, among many other events that food lovers will surely enjoy. The restaurant’s equestrian farm boasts nearly 110 horses. As a result, visitors can enjoy horse shows and horseback riding. After a pleasant meal, children can get to know native Hungarian animals like cattle, Racka sheep, and turkeys.

Cuisine

The menu at Öreg Tanyacsárda features classic, traditional, and Hungarian dishes, which have earned its kitchen numerous culinary awards. As in the beginning, the dishes are still made from fresh, seasonal, and high-quality ingredients based on old Hungarian recipes. For those with a sweet tooth, there are many desserts to choose from, all made according to homemade recipes. Their drink menu includes wines, pálinka, and soft drinks from Hungarian producers.

Getting Here

The Öreg Tanyacsárda is located 71 kilometers from Budapest, on the outskirts of Lajosmizse, along the 5th main road, next to the Sipos Fishing Lake. It is easily accessible from both Lajosmizse and Budapest by public transport, as there is a bus stop just a few meters from the restaurant entrance. For those arriving by car, a large, free parking lot with more than 30 spaces is available.

MagánZoo - Felsőlajos

maganzoo.png
The MagánZoo in Felsőlajos opened its doors to visitors in 2015, initiated by Tibor Tóth. The 20-hectare facility gained fame with its animal cub exhibitions and has remained popular ever since. Visitors can encounter nearly 400 creatures along the 1-kilometer-long walking path.

Felines

The biggest attraction at MagánZoo is undoubtedly the big cats. The collection includes 5 Siberian tigers, 2 white Bengal tigers, a lynx, and a lion family. Most of these animals arrived as cubs and were raised with care and love. Their enclosures rival those of state-run zoos in size and quality. Species conservation remains a vital aspect of the facility, so keep an eye on the news for the chance to feed or pet the newborn cubs.

Domestic Animals

In the enclosures of domesticated animals, you’ll find everything from exotic two-humped camels to simple domestic goats. With the ZOO snacks available for purchase, you can even feed them by hand. But be careful: their appetites are endless, and they’ll use any tactic to get tasty treats. Pay particular attention to the llamas, who express their displeasure by spitting. The zoo is also home to sheep, horses, ponies, and gentle rodents like hamsters, rabbits, and guinea pigs.

Other Attractions

The bird section includes exotic birds, parrots, and pheasants. Among the playful monkeys, you can find ring-tailed lemurs, Javan macaques, and marmosets. Right next to the macaque enclosure, you can observe the coati, while crested porcupines are housed near the lynx.

Dining Options

Starting every year in March, a cozy buffet operates within the MagánZoo, located between the Siberian tigers and exotic birds. The menu offers something for everyone in the family, from freshly grilled dishes, burgers, and sandwiches to snacks, beer, coffee, and soft drinks. Larger groups can enjoy meals cooked in a cauldron, while children are entertained by a large playground.

Getting Here

It’s best to start the adventure by car, as the nearest train station is 3 kilometers away from the zoo. The roads are well-signposted, and there is a spacious parking lot next to the park. Since the walking path is covered with sand, it’s easy to explore even in rainy weather.

Pusztatemplom

pusztatemplom.jpg
The oldest architectural monument in the town of Lajosmizse is the Pusztatemplom, built in the late 14th century. This early Gothic-style church was a so-called "pusztatemplom," meaning it was located outside inhabited areas, in the wilderness.

The first archaeological excavation we know of was conducted in 1927 by Kálmán Szabó, director of the Katona József Museum in Kecskemét. The church was built of limestone and had a shingled roof.
Limestone, known locally as "darázskő," is much softer, less load-bearing, and more porous than traditional rocks, which is why it deteriorates faster.
This church ruin is the simple, single-nave remains of a Gothic-style church with a polygonal closure on the east side. In the sanctuary, you can still see the niche for storing the Eucharist.

More recent excavations were carried out by András Fülöp in 1995. Fülöp uncovered 9 graves. As the remaining buttresses no longer rested on the foundation but were hanging in the air, they no longer served as support but weakened and pulled the walls. Therefore, it was necessary to reinforce the buttresses as soon as possible, which the Pusztatemplom Foundation completed with Gomép in 1999.
The population of the Pusztatemplom and the nearby small settlement likely perished during the war between 1591 and 1606.

Getting to the church: The church is about 4-4.5 km from the main road no. 5. It is easily accessible from Budapest via the main road no. 5, turning left at the "Kónya dűlő" bus stop before reaching Lajosmizse, crossing the M5 motorway, and then straight through a crossroads where the church mound with the ruin is already visible.
